About Burns Institute
Our Work
The W. Haywood Burns Institute is a San Francisco-based national nonprofit that helps protect and improve the lives of youth of color and poor youth by promoting and ensuring fairness and equity in youth-serving systems.
Our Mission
We exist to advance the well-being of all children. The Burns Institute works to eliminate racial and ethnic disparity by building a community-centered response to youthful misbehavior that is equitable and restorative.
Staff
We have 15 full-time staff members working tirelessly to help achieve fairness and equity in juvenile justice.
Annual Reports
We publish our Annual Reports every two years. The next report will be published in 2014.
Success
We have helped jurisdictions across the country make significant reductions in racial and ethnic disparities.
W. Haywood Burns
Our nonprofit is named for the late W. Haywood Burns, who was a beacon of light for those who believe the battle for human rights and justice can be won through activism, humility and dedication.
